Updating the Impossible Things plug-in

The plug-in checks for updates every time Lightroom Classic starts. When a new version is available, Lightroom shows an Impossible Things update dialog with the version number and what changed. The current version is 1.99.

How the update works

  1. Click to update in the dialog. The plug-in downloads the new version (about 95 MB on Mac, 52 MB on Windows) and replaces itself.
  2. Restart Lightroom Classic when asked. The update is not active until you restart.
  3. After the restart, File ▸ Plug-in Manager ▸ Impossible Things shows the new version number, and the What's New dialog appears once.

You stay logged in, and your presets, preset tuning and learning profile are kept.

Checking for updates by hand

Open File ▸ Plug-in Manager ▸ Impossible Things and click Check for updates now. The same section has a checkbox for the automatic check; keep it enabled.

If the update is not offered

  • Check your version in the Plug-in Manager – you may already be current.
  • The check needs internet access. Firewalls or VPNs that block Amazon S3 stop both the check and the download. Try another network.
  • If the Plug-in Manager shows the plug-in at an unusual location, the updater may not be able to replace it. Run the DVLOP Installer again – it installs the current version in the right place (see How to Install Impossible Things).

If the download fails

After a failed attempt, the previous version is left in place, so you can keep working and retry.

  • Windows: antivirus quarantining the updater, or a plug-in installed somewhere without write permission (for example under Program Files), breaks the update.
  • Mac: a failing update is almost always a permissions problem on the plug-in.

In both cases, run the DVLOP Installer again. If updates keep failing on a computer with normal permissions and internet, contact support with your plug-in version, operating system and the exact error text.

There is no rollback

Going back to an earlier version is not supported. If you preferred the previous engine's results, you can keep editing with it for now – see Editing engine (advanced): switching to ATLAS and back.
